3 new deaths from COVID-19 in Eastern Visayas bring toll to 93
TACLOBAN CITY –– The number of persons who died due to complications caused by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Eastern Visayas has reached 93.
On Thursday, health officials confirmed three new deaths from Samar provinces: an 80-year-old man from San Antonio town in Northern Samar; an 86-year-old woman from Villareal town in Samar; and a 37-year-old man from Balangiga, Eastern Samar.
Two of them died on Nov. 30, while the other one died on Dec. 2.
Balangiga Mayor Randy Graza issued an executive order on Wednesday declaring a border locked down until Dec.16.
The measure aims to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
Only the governor, vice governor, members of the provincial board, and medical and humanitarian teams, among others, are allowed to enter the town.
Article continues after this advertisementBusinessmen would be allowed to purchase goods outside the town but only once a week. They also need to secure a travel pass.

In Baybay City, Leyte, the new cases involve two medical health workers and a teacher, who were both placed in an isolation facility.
Mayor Jose Carlos Cari said Baybay now has 57 total COVID-19 cases.
“(Our) situation here in Baybay is manageable and under control,” Cari said.
As of Thursday, Eastern Visayas has 8,840 COVID-19. The new cases are from Leyte province with 27; 12 from Samar province; eight from Northern Samar; six from Eastern Samar; and four from Biliran province.
