MANILA, Philippines — The trough or extension of a low-pressure area (LPA) in the vicinity of Albay is causing rains in the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Bicol and Western Visayas regions, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Thursday.

Pagasa weather specialist Shelly Ignacio, however, said the LPA is less likely to develop into a tropical depression.

“Sa may Mimaropa kasama na rin ang Bicol region, dahil naman po sa trough ng LPA, or ‘yung mismong LPA ang nagpapaulan sa Mimaropa at Bicol region. Isama na rin po natin ang Western Visayas,” she said in Pagasa’s 4 a.m. weather bulletin.

Localized thunderstorms, on the other hand, will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers in Mindanao and the rest of Visayas.
