MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday said it is looking into reopening two U-turn slots along EDSA for the sake of motorists this Christmas season.
“We are considering re-opening two U-turn slots. The first one (is on) North Avenue, and (the other) on Congressional Avenue. But if we push through with the reopening of U-turn slots, it won’t be like these four,” Celina Pialago, MMDA spokeswoman, said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel when sought for comment about reopening U-turn slots during the holidays to ease traffic congestion.
Pialago said so far they closed six U-turn slots along Edsa “in order to speed up the travel of buses using Edsa busway.”
Most recently, the MMDA shuttered the U-turn slots along Bagong Barrio area.
MMDA previously closed U-turn slots located along North Avenue; near Oliveros Drive; Balintawak; in front of Quezon City Academy; and, in Dario Bridge (northbound and southbound).
The MMDA also said the closure of U-turn slots will ensure “safe, reliable, and efficient travel for commuters” along the major thoroughfare at Metro Manila.
