MANILA, Philippines — Pasigueños are in for another surprise this Christmas season as the city government will continue its holiday food aid program, “Pamaskong Handog,” amid the economic challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, City Mayor Vico Sotto said Tuesday.

Sotto said Pasig residents would receive food items to celebrate Christmas even as parties are banned because of the health crisis.

“Medyo malungkot dahil bawal muna ang mga party.. nandyan pa rin ang  banta ng Covid.. pero gagawin natin ang lahat para maging masaya pa rin sa Pasig ngayong Kapaskuhan,” Sotto penned in a tweet.

(It is sad to celebrate Christmas because parties are banned. COVID-19 threat still exists, but we will do everything to make Pasigueños happy during the holidays.)

“Tuloy po ang pagbabahay-bahay natin ng PAMASKONG HANDOG!” he added.

(Our Pamaskong Handog will continue.)

Based on Sotto’s posted photos, each package contains rice, spaghetti ingredients, corned beef, luncheon meat, fruit cocktail, and cheese, among others.

A total amount of P203,724,000 was allocated for the Christmas packages.

Pasig residents were surprised after they got Christmas packages from the city government last year.
