MANILA, Philippines — San Juan City adjusted its curfew hours this December to allow its constituents to prepare for Christmas traditions, such as the Simbang Gabi.
Under City Ordinance No. 86, series of 2020, curfew hours were shortened from the current 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. to midnight until 3 a.m.
“This is to give our constituents ample time to prepare for the Christmas season and attend the traditional Simbang Gabi provided that they strictly follow the guidelines set by the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force),” said City Mayor Francis Zamora in a statement.
Excluded from the curfew hours are health workers, frontline workers, law enforcers, employees of private and government firms, public utility vehicle drivers, employees of delivery services of essential goods, and those with emergencies.
Likewise, the mayor reminded that caroling is prohibited in the city as the activity is prone to virus transmission.
“Caroling is still banned in Metro Manila because, as we know, singing spreads a lot of aerosol particles in the air which then spreads the virus. As much as possible, we would like to avoid any activities which could cause and hasten the spread of the virus,” Zamora said. [ac]
