Man, 72, from Calbayog City dies from COVID-19
TACLOBAN CITY –– A 72-year-old man on Saturday died due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), bringing the total number of deaths in Eastern Visayas to 90.
The Department of Health (DOH) said the latest fatality came from Calbayog City.
The DOH announced on Monday night that Eastern Visayas has 8,737 COVID-19 cases.
The 12 new cases in the region were from Leyte province with six patients; Samar province (5); and Eastern Samar (1).
In Tacloban City, the region’s capital and economic center, its COVID-19 cases continued to increase with three additional patients.
Its total COVID-19 cases are now at 1,053, including 16 deaths.
President Duterte on Monday included Tacloban City in the list of areas that would continue to be under general community quarantine until Dec. 31.
In an interview, Tacloban Mayor Alfred Romualdez said he does not mind if the city would remain under a strict quarantine status since this would help slow down the virus.
