MANILA, Philippines — Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Friday warned residents not to believe a circulating fake report that the city’s traffic enforcers are requiring the use of the contact tracing application PasigPass to enter the city, noting that the application is only required for entrance to establishments in the city.

“May nagkakalat ng tsismis na  i-che-check ng mga traffic enforcers ang Pasig Pass…. Wala itong katotohanan,” Sotto announced using his official Twitter page.

(Someone is spreading rumors that traffic enforcers in the city are checking for Pasig Pass. This is not true.)

“Kaya para di na po tayo malito, sa mga VERIFIED PAGES na lang tayo magbasa ng announcements,” he added.

(To receive clear announcements, check only verified pages for announcements.)

The following establishments are required to scan the QR codes of residents for contact tracing using the PasigPass app:

city government institutions and offices
malls
financial institutions
health facilities
religious institutions
commercial establishments or offices with 30 persons or more
educational institutions
factories
restaurants
motels, inns or hotels
public transportation

“Under the PasigPass ordinance, a PasigPass QR code will now be a requirement for entry to business establishments in Pasig City. Some establishments such as malls have already started implementing a ‘No PasigPass, No Entry,” read the statement from the Pasig Public Information Office, discussing the city’s new contact tracing app.

As of Wednesday, Pasig logged 8,788 confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) with 8,236 recoveries and 358 deaths.
