Local legislators to attend Cebu meet

At least 200 legislators from all over the country are scheduled to arrive in Cebu this afternoon for their regional assembly.

The legislators are members of the Provincial Board Members League of the Philippines (PBMLP), which is holding its general assembly with Cebu as its host province.

Provincial Board Member Ian Zambo (Cebu 3rd district), who’s in charge of the event, told Cebu Daily News that this would be an inter-island per term assembly since it was Cebu’s turn to host the legislators.

Participants of the event will be Provincial Board Members from Regions 6, 7, 8, other Mindanao delegates and delegates from the national group.

Zambo said some congressmen and senators were invited to the event which starts at 4 p.m. at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel in barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

Zambo said the topics for discussion of the assembly would be known during the opening.

When asked if there’s a possibility that the issue on Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Renato Corona would be discussed, Zambo declined to comment further since its their national group that organized the assembly.

Last year, one of the regional assembly’s topics included the rising cases of human trafficking especially in the province of Cebu.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia will also host a dinner for the legislators at the Capitol Social Hall tonight. /Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
