Quezon province logs 9 more COVID-19 deaths

LUCENA CITY –– Health authorities in Quezon province recorded nine more deaths related to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In its 5 p.m. bulletin on Tuesday, Nov. 24, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) disclosed that seven validated COVID-19 patients – three each in the towns of Lopez and Candelaria, and one in Lucena City – were the latest listed fatalities.

The record was the province’s highest single-day tally among fatalities of the dreaded respiratory disease since the pandemic broke out in early March.

No details on the fatalities were given.

The COVID-19 death toll in Quezon now stood at 151.

Lucena City, the capital of the province, has the highest number of fatalities with 42.

The IPHO records showed that from Nov. 1 to 24, a total of 51 COVID-19 patients died. In October, 42 have died of the disease.

The IPHO also reported that two individuals suspected of having COVID-19 had also died. Authorities gave no other details about the two deaths or the cause of their demise.

The total number of fatalities in the province among the “suspects” have now reached 135.

A person is a “suspected” COVID-19 carrier if he/she shows symptoms after contact with a confirmed case or has visited a place with local transmission of the disease, according to the Department of Health (DOH) protocol.

The IPHO reported that at least 302 “suspects” were still confined in hospitals and isolation centers in different parts of the province, while 280 others were on home quarantine.

As of Tuesday, Quezon, which remains under the modified general community quarantine status, logged a total of 4,120 recoveries with the addition of 106 recovered patients, also the highest single-day tally of healed virus carriers in the province.

The province has so far recorded 5,085 COVID-19 cases, 814 of which remains active.
