BACOLOD CITY –– A fund-raising campaign has been conducted to purchase a vehicle needed by the Siervas de Maria (Servants of Mary) nuns in their mission to serve poor and sick people in Bacolod City.

Sr. Carmen Piña, superior of the Servants of Mary, said they badly need a vehicle to be used as an ambulance to transfer their bedridden patients and those unable to walk from their homes to their clinic at Purok Ezequiel Moreno in Barangay Handumanan so they could be attended to by a doctor.

“When we were established in Barangay Handumanan, we started to discover how many poor sick people were dying in their homes, without any help, for the lack of resources to avail of medical treatment and to buy medicines,” she said.

Piña said they do not only care for the physical health of a person but also his or her psychological, spiritual, and social needs.

“In Matthew 25:40 Christ says ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me’,” Lizares said of the mission of the Servants of Mary.
