VP Robredo visits flood-hit Cagayan

Vice President Leni Robredo visited Cagayan Valley on Sunday morning, Nov. 15, 2020, as parts of the province suffered massive flooding due to Typhoon Ulysses. VP Leni went to several evacuation centers in Tuguegarao City, where the OVP brought relief assistance including food packs, drinking water, and mattresses. She also checked the areas of Linao and Annafunan, where many of the requests received by her office for rescue assistance came from. MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday visited and reached out to displaced residents of Cagayan which was hit by massive flooding due to Typhoon Ulysses.

In a Twitter post, Robredo said the situation in the province is “so much better.”

“We arrived in Cagayan this morning. Our team arrived a few hours earlier with supplies. Situation is so much better. Many areas still flooded but water receded already,” she said.

Cagayan has been placed under a state of calamity due to the flooding, which was triggered by the release of water from Magat Dam and heavy siltation of waterways.

Nine flood-related deaths have so far been reported in Cagayan.

Cagayan’s capital, Tuguegarao City was also placed under a state of calamity.
