PH’s COVID-19 cases top 400,000-mark; 1,672 new infections logged

MANILA, Philippines — The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country surpassed the 400,000-mark after the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 1,672 new infections of the disease caused by the new coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2.

DOH reported Wednesday that the nationwide tally now stands at 401,416, including 31,489 active cases in which 83.3 percent are tagged as mild conditions while 9.4 percent are considered asymptomatic; 4.6 percent, critical; and 2.5 percent, severe.

The sum case count likewise includes the 311 new recoveries and 49 more fatalities, which increased the number of total recovered patients to 362,217 and the death toll to 7,710, respectively.

According to DOH, most of the new 1,672 infections came from Cavite (100), and then Davao City (99), Quezon City (81), Batangas (78), and Baguio City (70).

The health agency further reported the discovery of five duplicate cases in its nationwide tally. The duplicates, it noted, include three cases of recovered patients that were consequently removed from its data.

Also, DOH said 10 cases previously tagged as recoveries were subsequently reclassified as death cases after final validation.
