MANILA, Philippines — Police Brigadier General Vicente Danao Jr., the new acting director of National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), on Wednesday vowed to increase police visibility to maintain peace and order in Metro Manila.
“Ang ating ipo-promisa sa ating kababayan is we will try our best to maintain the peace and order. That is given and done by our chief PNP [Philippine National Police chief Police General Debold Sinas],” Danao said in a speech as he was officially installed as acting NCRPO director during the change of command rites at NCRPO Headquarters.
(We promise to the public that we will try our best to maintain peace and order. That it is given and done by our chief PNP.)
“So paano natin gagawin iyan? More of the police visibility on the streets. It is now one of our marching orders as what the PNP chief said yesterday: Let us flood the streets of Metro Manila with policemen in order to ensure the safety and security of our constituents and we will only do that if we will properly account our personnel,” he added.
Danao was appointed as the new acting chief of the NCRPO, replacing Sinas, who is now the 25th Philippine National Police chief.
Before being appointed as NCRPO chief, Danao was Calabarzon police chief, where he is known for leading security and evacuation efforts during the Taal Volcano eruption this January 2020.
In 2018, Danao took the helm of the Manila Police District (MPD).
Danao, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1991, was also the police chief of Davao City from 2013 to 2016 during then-Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s term.
Danao, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1991, will reach mandatory retirement on Aug. 10, 2023.
