Danao to cops with drug links: ‘Door is always open for you to leave’

Police Brigadier General Vicente Danao Jr. delivers his speech as he assumes the post as acting National Capital Region Police Office director. From NCRPO live

MANILA, Philippines — Police Brigadier General Vicente Danao Jr., the new acting director of National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), on Wednesday said policemen involved in illegal drugs may leave the police service as his administration will be strict against rogue uniformed personnel.

“Oplan Linis means: Linisin ang tiwalag at scalawag na miyembro ng kapulisan (rid police of scalawags) and I will be very strict on that, especially on the administration of justice on everyone, so I expect that all members of Philippine National police especially in NCRPO would toe the line,” Danao said in his speech during the change of command event at NCRPO Headquarters in Taguig City.

“Nakikiusap ako sa inyo: Let us put a stop especially on the anti-illegal drugs. Kung mayroon mang  pa-isa isa pa sa inyo na medyo nawawala ang landas, ngayon palang sinasabihan ko kayo: the door is always open for you to leave,” he added.

(I beg of you, let us put a stop especially on the anti-illegal drugs. If there are still policemen who would disobey, I am telling you: the door is always open for you to leave.)

Danao was designated as the acting chief of the Metro Manila police, replacing Police General Debold Sinas, who is the newly-installed chief of the nation’s police force.

Danao was previously the chief of Calabarzon police or Police Regional Office 4A. In 2018, Danao became Manila City’s top cop.

Danao was also Davao police chief from 2013 to 2016 under then-Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s term.
