Manila City gov’t gives P100K reward to 73 barangays with no new COVID-19 cases
MANILA, Philippines — The Manila City government on Monday awarded P100,000 each to 73 barangays that recorded no new COVID-19 cases for the past two months.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso awarded the cash to barangays that did not record any additional cases of COVID-19 from September 1 to October 31 after the flag raising ceremony at the Kartilya ng Katipunan.
To recall, Moreno announced the incentive-based approach on August 31 to help contain the spread of the new coronavirus in the city. He said he had asked Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan for the Manila City Council to allocate appropriate budget for the program.
“Ang goal natin ay zero COVID-19 infection for two months sa barangay (Our goal is to achieve zero COVID-19 infection for two months in barangays), and I believe that you can do it. That is why we want to give you incentives,” Moreno said in a statement.
The mayor also assured that all data being used in this initiative are coming from the Manila Health Department (MHD).
Moreno said about 12 barangays were tallied in District 1, nine barangays in District 2, 20 barangays in District 3, nine barangays in District 4, ten barangays in District 5, and 13 barangays in District 3.
