MANILA, Philippines — Kabataan party-list Rep. Sarah Elago expressed alarm over an alleged death threat against her that was posted by the Cantilan municipal police station in Surigao del Sur on Facebook.

The already deleted post also tagged Elago as a “terrorist.”

“”Have a nice trip” with my name in a bloody font! Reporting this death threat from PNP [Philippine National Police] to PNP @pnppio,” Elago wrote on Twitter on Friday night.

The post written in bloody font read: “Have a nice trip Sarah because terrorists will never win” and “This is the end of their youth deception.”

The anti-terror law, which now has implementing rules and regulations, is being criticized because critics fear it is too vague and can be used to tag activists and the opposition as terrorists.

The Facebook post also comes in the wake of a Senate inquiry into the alleged red-tagging of celebrities and groups by security officials.

Cascolan orders probe

Asked about the PNP’s action on Elago’s post, PNP chief Police General Camilo Cascolan said he had ordered the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) to look into the controversial post.

He vowed that sanctions will be imposed against errant police officers behind the Twitter post.

“DIDM will coordinate with DICTM [Directorate for Information and Communications Technology Management] re SOPs to be followed in posting delicate issues like this, sanctions will be given,” he told INQUIRER.net in a text message on Saturday.

In September, social media giant Facebook deleted several Facebook accounts linked to Philippine police and military for “coordinated inauthentic behavior.”

The accounts were attacking dissent and activists, Facebook added.
