Village chief in Palawan gunned down

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY –– The provincial government of Palawan called for justice, condemning the “senseless killing” of Roderick Aperocho, chief of Barangay Poblacion in Narra town, Palawan, who was gunned down on Thursday evening while inside his residence.

“[We] condemn in strongest terms the senseless and brutal killing of the barangay official [that] was mercilessly gunned down by two assailants inside his residential compound last night. The local officials of the province join the family in seeking immediate justice for the victim at the same time calls upon authorities to exert all efforts to arrest the perpetrators of this crime,” read the statement from the provincial information office issued on Friday afternoon.

Aperocho, 39, and barangay volunteer Jerry Dioquino, 23, were having a drinking session when an unidentified gunman, believed to be riding-in-tandem, barged inside Aperocho’s residence and fired upon the victims, according to the police report.

Both victims suffered multiple bullet wounds in different parts of their bodies and were brought to the Narra Medicate Hospital. Aperocho died while on the way to the hospital.

Dioquino was transferred to a hospital in Puerto Princesa City for treatment.

Police declined to issue further statements as the investigation continues.
