MANILA, Philippines — The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) on Friday advised the public to be wary of suspicious phone calls, text messages, and social media posts soliciting donations for the institute.
RITM director Celia Carlos said that such messages and posts did not originate from the institute, after receiving several reports from suppliers and concerned citizens.
“We do not participate in any formal or informal solicitation activities. I have not and will not issue such orders, nor allow any representative or staff of RITM to solicit donations—whether in-kind or monetary—from any individual, party, or entity inside or outside the Institute,” Carlos said in a statement.
“We vehemently denounce such malicious activities exploiting the name of RITM for personal gain,” she added.
Carlos explained that all legitimate communication from RITM bears the Institute’s official letterhead and is duly approved and signed by the Office of the Director.
She said questionable activities claiming affiliation to RITM can be reported to RITM’s Communications Office at communications@ritm.gov.ph, or through the official Facebook page of the Institute. Miggy Dumlao, trainee
