MANILA, Philippines — Angono police officers were not involved in the Nov. 4 fatal shooting of an alleged survivor of an extra judicial killing (EJK) inside a hospital in Angono, Rizal, the town’s police chief said Friday.
“Actually sa police station, walang kinalaman po ang police station natin dahil kami po ang nagdala sa biktima sa hospital mula doon sa area kung saan siya nakita at noong nalaman na buhay pa, dinala namin sa hospital. Tumawag kami ng ambulansya,” Police Major Richard Corpuz, Angono, Rizal police chief, told ABS-CBN News Channel, reacting to social media users’ suspicions on possible police influence in the killing of Vincent Adia at the Rizal hospital.
(Actually, in the police station, our police station has no hand in this killing because we were the ones who brought the victim to the hospital from that area where he was found and that’s when we found that he is still alive, we brought him to the hospital. We called an ambulance.)
The Angono police chief added that the killing of Adia in the hospital was an isolated case.
“Medyo isolated case ito, parang sa pelikula nga. Napakaraming tao sa loob ng hospital. Maraming nagpapacheck-up during that time and then sa emergency room, maraming pasyente,” Corpuz said.
(This is a bit of an isolated case, like a scene in a movie. There are a lot of people at the hospital. Many people went to the hospital for check-ups and then at the emergency room, there were a lot of patients.)
Reports on Wednesday showed that Adia was shot twice by an unidentified gunman while being treated at a hospital in Angono.
A health worker first reported the shooting incident on Twitter, which was later confirmed by police.
