High score of PH in Gallup report reflects on admin’s fight vs crime – Go

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go welcomed on Wednesday the release of the Gallup 2020 Global Law and Order Report in which the Philippines landed in the list of top 50 countries with good peace and order, with a score of 84 out of 100.

“This is a testament to our continuous campaign against illegal drugs, criminality, and corruption in the country,” Go said in Filipino in a statement. This is what the President has been wishing for — that country will become orderly and peaceful for the good of everyone.”

According to Go, the report issued by Gallup, a Washington-based analytics and advisory firm, is similar to that of Australia, New Zealand, Poland, and Serbia.

“I know that with a continuous campaign peace and order in the country will get better. This is the change that the people feel is what the administration has to offer,” Go said.

The Gallup report is based on the people’s sense of personal security and experiences with crime and law enforcement in the country.

According to news reports, those who were surveyed provided positive responses on the law enforcement agencies in the Philippines. They also gave positive feedback that law enforcement authorities were doing their work.

Go said he considered the Philippines ranking in the report as a resounding vote of confidence for the Duterte administration, with its promise of bringing a “comfortable life” to all Filipinos.

Go reminded the government, however, not to be complacent.

“The people feel that their communities are safe now because laws are being followed and the welfare of even the poorest are protected,” he said. “So we have to continue and intensify this campaign more.”

Previously, Go assured the Philippine National Police (PNP)  that he and President Rodrigo Duterte would always protect them in the performance of their official duty as long as they do it in accordance with the law.

“Do your work correctly. Let’s protect our countrymen. Let’s fight illegal drugs and criminality. Don’t be afraid. As long as you are right and do your operations in the right way, we are here to defend and support you,” Go said.

Go noted that he had filed Senate Bill No. 393, which would give free legal assistance to any officer or enlisted personnel of the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines who might be facing before charges arising from their official duty.
