Sara Duterte visits 5 typhoon-hit provinces with Imee Marcos

MANILA, Philippines — Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Wednesday visited five provinces hit by Typhoon Rolly with Senator Imee Marcos.

A photo shared by Marcos’ office showed the senator and Duterte posing for a selfie inside a chopper, which they used to visit the areas to “assist residents” and distribute relief goods.

Duterte and Marcos first arrived in Legazpi City, Albay, at around 10 a.m. and proceeded to Naga City, Camarines Sur, according to the senator’s office.

“The Marcos-Duterte tandem also visited Marinduque, Batangas, and Quezon,” it added.

It can be recalled that Marcos was endorsed by Duterte’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago ((HNP) party during the May 2019 elections.

The mayor’s father, President Rodrigo Duteret, also earlier visited areas ravaged by Rolly.

Vice President Leni Robredo also stopped by typhoon-hit areas to distribute aid to families.

The Philippine National Police reported 25 fatalities due to the typhoon’s onslaught while 39 have been injured.

Categorized as a super typhoon before it slammed into the Philippine landmass, Rolly first made landfall in Bato town, Catanduanes province on Sunday, packing maximum sustained wind speeds of 225 kilometers (140 miles) per hour.

Rolly left infrastructure damage worth P5.76 billion, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways. [ac]
