8 health facilities in Bicol region damaged by Rolly — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — At least eight health facilities in the Bicol region were damaged during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Rolly, the Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday.

According to Health Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, the damage to the Bicol health facilities was estimated at P116 million.

The following facilities incurred damaged over the weekend:

“Patuloy po nating inaalam ang mga lagay ng iba pang health facities sa mga lugar na dinaanan ng Bagyong Rolly,” Vergeire said in an online press briefing.

(We will continue to look at the condition of other health facilities in areas affected by Typhoon Rolly.)

The DOH spokesperson said the agency has already provided P31 million worth of medical supplies to the different regional offices in areas affected by Rolly, which battered parts of Luzon on Sunday.

A total of P20 million financial assistance was also given to affected health facilities.

Aside from killing at least 20 people in the Bicol region, Super Typhoon Rolly, the world’s strongest storm this year, also damaged agricultural crops and infrastructure worth P6 billion.
