35,000 families to be evacuated in Camarines Norte as ‘Rolly’ nears

LEGAZPI CITY –– The local government of Camarines Norte has ordered the pre-emptive evacuation of at least 35,000 families or 159,000 individuals as Typhoon “Rolly” (international name “Goni”) approaches Bicol region.

Lawyer Don Culvera, the unified incident commander of the province, said they were expecting to complete the evacuation of families from areas prone to flash floods and landslides and coastal villages by Saturday in the towns of Daet, Vinzons, Mercedes, Paracale, and Panganiban.

“We instructed the local officials to start the evacuation on Friday until Saturday afternoon because, according to the weather bureau, the typhoon is expected to affect the province on Sunday morning,” he said.

On Friday, the local officials of Daet started the evacuation of families in low-lying areas in villages of San Isidro, Cobangbang, Awitan, Bagasbas, and Mambalite.
