5 barangays in Parañaque now COVID-free, says Mayor Olivarez

MANILA, Philippines — Active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Parañaque City have dipped to 51 as of October 27, with five barangays in the city having zero active cases.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez announced on Wednesday that the five barangays with zero active cases are Don Galo, La Huerta, San Dionisio, Vitalez, and Sun Valley.
Barangay Don Galo recorded 207 recoveries from its 210 confirmed cases since March. Barangay La Huerta had 214 confirmed cases with 209 recoveries while Barangay Vitalez recorded 115 recoveries from its 116 confirmed cases.
Barangay San Dionisio and Barangay Sun Valley both exceeded 500 confirmed cases with the former recording 564 recoveries from 582 confirmed cases while the latter recorded 526 confirmed cases with 514 recoveries.
The latest data from Parañaque’s City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) showed that the city reached a total of 6,648 cases with 6,404 recoveries and 168 fatalities since March.
According to CESU chief Darius Sebastian the number of active COVID-19 cases continues to decline.
Sebastian also notes that the residents of these five barangays cooperated with medical officials and followed safety and health protocols that brought down their active cases to zero.
The University of the Philippines OCTA Research team also did not identify Parañaque as one of the high-risk areas for the deadly disease among other cities in Metro Manila. Miggy Dumlao, INQUIRER.net trainee
