MANILA, Philippines — The tropical depression monitored by the state weather bureau might enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
Based on the weather update issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) at 4 a.m., the center of the (tropical depression) was last spotted 2,070 kilometers east of Central Luzon. It is moving northwestward slowly and has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometer per hour near the center and business of up to 70 kph.
“Inaasahan po natin siyang papasok tonight or tomorrow morning. Kapag pumasok po iyan ng PAR tatawagin po natin siyang bagyong Rolly,” Pagasa weather specialist Shelly Ignacio said.
(We expect this to enter PAR tonight or tomorrow morning. If it enters PAR, it will be named Rolly.)
“Ang inaasahan po nating track ng bagyong Rolly kung ito ay papasok sa PAR ngayong gabi o bukas ng umaga ay inaasahan po natin na ‘yung track nya po ay dito ay patungo sa Bicol Region-Eastern Visayas pero maaari pa po itong magbago,” she added.
(If it enters PAR tonight or tomorrow morning, we expect that it will pass through the Bicol Region-Eastern Visayas area, but this forecast track may still change.)
Meanwhile, Pagasa said the trough or extension of typhoon Molave, formerly Quinta, that is already outside PAR will bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms in Occidental Mindoro, Palawan and Western Visayas.
The typhoon was last spotted 500 km northwest of Kalayaan Islands, Palawan with maximum sustained winds of 155 kph near the center and gustiness up to 190 kph. It is moving west-northwestward at 20 kph.
Batanes and Cagayan, on the other hand, will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the tail-end of a frontal system.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms, according to Pagasa.
