‘Quinta’ leaves PAR; Signal No. 1 still up over Kalayaan Islands

MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Quinta departed the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday morning as it continued to move over the West Philippine Sea, the weather bureau said.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa said Quinta left PAR at 8 a.m. on Tuesday but it is still expected to further intensify over the West Philippine Sea and reach its peak intensity within 24 hours.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 remained hoisted over Kalayaan Islands, where 30 to 60 kilometers per hour winds or intermittent rains may be expected in 36 hours.

Pagasa said Quinta was located 775 km west of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro or 255 north of Pagasa Island, Palawa at 10 a.m.

It is packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kph and gustiness of up to 185 kph, moving westward at a speed of 20 kph.

Quinta will bring moderate to heavy, with at times intense rains over Western Visayas, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan including Calamian, Cuyo, and Kalayaan Islands, Pagasa said.

The typhoon will likewise bring light to moderate, with at times heavy rains over Calabarzon, Davao Region, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Surigao del Sur.

The weather bureau warned that flooding, including flash floods, and rain-induced landslides may occur.

Strong breeze to near gale conditions is expected over areas under Signal No. 1.

Meanwhile, strong breeze to gale conditions associated with the northeasterlies will prevail in Batanes, northern Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte.

Occasional gusts associated with the outer circulation of Quinta will likewise still be experienced over MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, and the western section of Luzon, Pagasa said.

The northern and western seaboards of Luzon will have rough to very rough seas, making sea travel risky especially for mariners of small sea vessels, the weather bureau warned.

Moderate to rough seas, meanwhile, will be experienced over the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Palawan including Cuyo Islands, the southern seaboards of Mindoro Provinces, and the western seaboards of Western Visayas.

Pagasa is also monitoring a low pressure area located at 2,115 km east of Southern Luzon (outside PAR).

Pagasa said the LPA is likely to enter the PAR on Wednesday or Thursday. It is also likely to develop into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours.
