10 people rescued after being stranded for 12 hours on a motor banca off Mactan Island

Ten people who went on an island hopping activity on Olango Island were rescued after they got stranded on a motor banca for 12 hours due to strong winds and waves. Photo courtesy of PCG-7

CEBU CITY –– Ten people were rescued after they got stranded on a motor banca for 12 hours due to strong winds and waves.

A report from the Philippine Coast Guard Central Visayas said MBCA Chester 1 was carrying 10 people, including two crew members, as it went on an island-hopping activity on Olango Island around 12:30 p.m. of Oct. 25.

MBCA Chester 1 opted to anchor off Marigondon on Mactan Island for safety. The passengers, however, were not able to disembark because of the huge waves.

An informant called the Coast Guard to help the tourists disembark from the boat.

Past midnight of Oct. 26, all passengers were successfully taken out of MBCA Chester 1
