MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Quinta is expected to drench parts of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao on Saturday, the state weather bureau said.
In its 5 a.m. live weather update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that “Quinta” was last spotted at 750 kilometers east northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar or 855 kilometers east of Catarman, Samar.
“Quinta” also packed maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
The tropical depression was spotted moving northwest at 15 kph.
Aside from “Quinta”, Pagasa said that the trough of Typhoon Saudel, formerly known locally as Pepito, is currently affecting weather conditions in Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Because of Quinta and the trough of “Saudel”, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Bicol region, Visayas and Mindanao.
Meanwhile, the frontal system is currently affecting Northern Luzon, and will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao and Ilocos Norte.
Localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers over Metro Manila and the rest of the country, Pagasa said.
