MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) might pull out erroneous self-learning modules (SLMs) depending on the “gravity” of its errors, Secretary Leonor Briones said Friday.
“Hindi errata, withdrawal talaga. Depende sa gravity, ‘yung grammar kaya ‘yan i-errata,” Education Secretary Leonor Briones told a press briefing when asked about DepED’s actions on reports about erroneous modules that are being used by students in view of the distance learning setup during the COVID-19 pandemic.
(Not errata, it will be withdrawal. It depends on the gravity. Grammar errors can be dealt with errata.)
“Depende sa degree ng error. Meron namang typographical errors na pwede ma-errata pero kung ‘yung overall framework ay hindi karapat-dapat, siguro i-wiwithdraw ang materials, sa tingin ko,” she added.
(It depends on the degree of error. There are typographical errors that can be addressed though errata but if the overall framework is unacceptable, I think the materials should be withdrawn.)
DepEd has received reports on 41 errors in SLMs through DepEd Error Watch from October 12 to 20.
The platform aims to receive and collate reports of errors found in learning materials, such as SLMs and TV episodes, that will be forwarded to appropriate offices for validation and correction. The department urges the public to report such errors to errorwatch@deped.gov.ph or 0961-6805334.
To immediately identify the regions where the erroneous modules are being used, DepEd is also urging its regional offices to come up with its own versions of Error Watch where blunders on SLMs can be reported by the public.
