MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-five out of 126 hospitals in Metro Manila are in “danger” as the utilization rate of the COVID-19 facilities is almost full, records from the Department of Health (DOH) showed Friday.
This number decreased from the 27 hospitals in Metro Manila that were under the “danger” zone last Oct. 14.
And of the 25 hospitals, six have declared that their COVID-19 beds reached 100 percent capacity, namely the Allied Care Experts (Ace) Medical Center Valenzuela Inc., Hospital Of The Infant Jesus Medical Center, Mary Chiles General Hospital Inc., Philippine Children’s Medical Center, Rosario Maclang Bautista Hospital and the SDS Medical Center.
The health department said a health facility is considered in “danger” in case of COVID-19 surge if it had more than 70 percent occupancy for COVID-19 beds.
The bed occupancy rate for the whole Metro Manila remained at “warning level” with 43.7 percent as 2,982 beds out of 6,827 total beds are occupied.
Meanwhile, a hospital is placed under a “warning” classification if it garnered a 30 percent to 70 percent utilization rate.
Hospitals are considered “safe” from a surge of COVID-19 patients if their bed utilization rate is less than 30 percent.
