MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) has monitored 34 errors in self-learning modules being used by students for this school year as the government bans face-to-face classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Originally, the DepEd reported having monitored 35 errors.
“Ang report po sa atin as of 8 a.m. this morning, meron po kaming 35 na mga screenshots. Thirty-five po ang namonitor namin at sa 35 pong ito ay iba-iba ‘yung klase ng error,” Diosdado San Antonio, Education Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction, said in a press briefing on Monday.
(As of 8 a.m. this morning, the report we received is there are 35 screenshots. We have monitored 35 screenshots with different errors.)
The 34 errors cover 18 from DepEd field units, 15 from unidentified sources, and one that was reviewed by the department’s central office.
According to San Antonio, the errors range from wrong options in multiple choices, color in printing, and use of words, and images that were overstretched.
“‘Yung ating self-learning modules na ginagamit sa ating mga paaralan ay iba-iba ang may gawa,” he explained. “Sang-ayon sa aming report na nakuha, doon sa 35 instances na may mali, ang kinoconfirm namin na may mali na talagang dumaan sa aming team na nagreview ay isa,” he added.
(The self-learning modules being used in schools are made by different entities… Based on the report we received, from the 35 instances of errors, we are looking at only one that was reviewed by our team.)
He added that this error is in a module that required a colored printing but was printed black and white.
Erratum will be made on the erroneous modules, said the DepEd official.
According to the official, the modules designed by its field units are only being used in limited areas, and that the erroneous modules of which source has yet to be identified by DepEd could be those used in private schools.
