Manila bans videoke, karaoke sessions from Monday to Saturday
MANILA, Philippines — Videoke and karaoke sessions in Manila are now prohibited from Monday to Saturday to prevent loud noises that will distract students in their online classes, the city government said Thursday.
In a statement, the Manila Public Information Office (PIO) announced that Manila Mayor Isko Moreno signed Ordinance No. 8688 which bans the use of karaokes, videoke machines, and other sound-producing devices from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. from Monday to Saturday.
Moreno said he approved the ordinance after receiving complaints from parents of students who were distracted by neighbors using karaokes since public schools started having classes on Monday, October 5.
Under the ordinance, first-time violators will be made to pay a fine of P1,000 while second-time offenders will pay a fine of P2,000.
A fine of P3,000 will be slapped on those who will violate the ordinance for the third and succeeding offenses.
