4 new deaths bring total fatalities in Eastern Visayas to 50

TACLOBAN CITY –– The Department of Health (DOH) in Eastern Visayas has reported four new deaths due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), bringing its total number of fatalities to 50.

The fatalities involved a 79-year-old man, who died last Oct. 2; a 75-year-old woman, who died last Oct. 5; an 82-year-old woman, who died last Oct. 2; and a 90-year-old woman, who died last Oct.5.

Dr. Minerva Molon, the regional director of the DOH, said the region’s fatality rate stands at just less than one percent or 0.99 percent compared to its total COVID-19 cases.

At present, the region has 5,111 COVID-19 cases.

Molon said Eastern Visayas nonetheless has a high recovery rate of 87 percent.

At present, 12 municipalities in the region have no COVID-19 cases.

These are Maslog, Balangkayan, Hernani, Jipapad, and Can-avid in Eastern Samar province; San Antonio, San Vicente, and Biri in Northern Samar; Santo Niño, Tagapul-an, and Biri, in Samar province; and Hinundayan in Southern Leyte.
