PH COVID-19 cases near 320k with 2,674 new infections

MANILA, Philippines — The new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has infected 319,330 individuals in the Philippines after more than 200 days since the government implemented a lockdown.

As of 4 p.m. on Saturday, the Department of Health recorded 2,674 new cases of the respiratory disease. Of the total COVID-19 tally,  58,606 are active cases.

The Philippine health department also reported 459 additional recoveries, raising the total count of recovered patients to 255,056.

However, DOH also documented 62 more fatalities of the coronavirus disease. This brings the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 5,678.

After further evaluation, 22 duplicated cases were deleted from the total caseload. Of the number, 11 were recoveries.

DOH said 19 cases that were included in the total recoveries were reclassified as deaths.

The health department also revealed that 10 molecular laboratories failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Data Repository System (CDRS) on Friday, Oct. 2.

Currently, John Hopkins’ COVID-19 tracker showed that the Philippines is the 20th country with the most number of total coronavirus disease infections worldwide.
