CITY OF CALAPAN —Three policemen were wounded in an ambush by New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas on Monday (Sept. 28) in the town of Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro province.
Lt. Imelda Tolentino, Mimaropa regional police information officer, said the three policemen—Corporals Michael Librea and Vincent Dominguez and Patrolman Norman Alvaro—were in their patrol jeep returning to their unit, 403rd Mobile Company, around 11:30 a.m.
Two other policemen were in the vehicle—Patrolmen Melvin Galendez and Mark Joseph Regugio.
The team had just finished its patrol when the policemen were waylaid by NPA guerrillas on Mabaho Road at the village of Cabalwa on the way to their unit’s camp, according to Tolentino.
Dominguez, Librea, and Alvaro were wounded and brought to Roxas District Hospital in Roxas town while Galendez and Rebugio were unharmed, she added.
The guerrillas burned the police patrol jeep before fleeing. Authorities had launched a pursuit operation.
