Bataan legislature dangles COVID-19 carrot: P25,000 per virus-free village

BALANGA CITY—The provincial board on Monday (Sept. 21) passed an ordinance that will provide monetary incentives to villages that would keep the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at bay.

Board Member Godofredo Galicia Jr., chair of the committees on community development and health, said Gov. Albert Garcia made an urgent request for the ordinance that will give P25,000 per coronavirus-free village. The province has 237 villages.

The “Bataan Incentives for COVID-19-Free Barangay” measure will be initially implemented in the villages of the so-called “Lower Mariveles” as pilot areas. These villages in Mariveles town are still on lockdown since Sept. 12 due to the spike in COVID-19 cases.

Other areas outside Mariveles will also benefit from the incentive program that will be implemented mainly by the provincial health office.
