BINALONAN, Pangasinan, Philippines — A 28-hectare industrial park in this agricultural town is hosting a company manufacturing wiring harness for automobiles that is expected to generate 10,000 jobs.

Officials of the Japan-based Sumi-North Philippines Wiring Systems Corp. (SNPWC) and its local partner, North Luzon Aero Industrial Park Corp., held groundbreaking ceremonies last week.

Construction for the first of three phases of project will start early 2021 and operations are expected to open before the year ends.

The project was originally planned to be completed in three years, but the coronavirus pandemic might delay the completion of the two phases, Morikawa said during the groundbreaking on Sept. 16.

This is the fourth manufacturing plant to be established in the country by SNPWC. The others are in Batangas, Bataan and Tarlac provinces.

Pangasinan Rep. Ramon Guico III said the manufacturing firm would serve as an economic driver for the town as it would also create indirect economic activities like establishment of boarding houses, restaurants and other businesses in the area.
