A good Samaritan rescued a female puppy after it was thrown from a bridge and into a river in Florida, USA.

The unidentified man immediately swam to save the animal when it fell into the water last Thursday, Sept. 17.

Meanwhile, a bystander also contacted a local animal shelter for help, as per First Coast News on the same day.

Following the rescue, the Nassau County Animal Services collected the dog, which they have named Queso. Staff at the shelter believe Queso is a 10-week-old terrier mix.

The center’s director, Timothy Maguire, later stated that she is lucky to be alive after the fall.

“With the currents that go through underneath that bridge and how small the puppy is, I’m surprised that they made it,” he told the news outlet.

Veterinarians have also spayed Queso in preparation for her future adoption. Once she recovers, the shelter will help her find her new forever home.

However, Maguire admits that they have not received many applications for Queso.

“They probably think she’s already adopted,” he said in the report.  “There’s only a handful for her right now, so we’ll look through them, and whatever we think the best fit for her will be, is where she’ll be placed.”

Meanwhile, Maguire has encouraged the anonymous man who saved Queso to contact the shelter.

“We’d love to speak to him,” he was quoted as saying. “It was a great thing he did and we appreciate it. Sure the puppy does [too].” Ryan Arcadio /ra
