Fire guts Caloocan grocery store
A two-hour-long fire before midnight Monday gutted the ground floor of a two-storey grocery store in Caloocan City, destroying property worth P2 million. The fire, believed to have started from the power source of the Domingo Grocery Store in Sampalukan St. in Barangay (village) Camarin, started at 10:50 p.m. The grocery store is owned by Senior Police Officer 4 Decoroso Domingo and his wife, Evelyn. The fire was put out by 12:45 a.m. Tuesday. No one was reported injured or killed in the fire.—Niña Calleja
Chinese-Filipino found dead inside QC home
A Chinese-Filipino was found dead Tuesday morning in his three-story house in Quezon City right after celebrating the Chinese New Year with his family on Monday evening. Police Officer 1 Alvin Quisumbing of the Quezon City Police District identified the victim as Jeffrey Go, 36, of Hobart Subdivision, Barangay (village) Kaligayahan. Quisumbing said the victim was found hanging at the staircase around 7 a.m. by a maid. Police ruled the death a suicide. Multinational company employee shot dead
Armed men with hand-held radios shot and killed a multinational company employee on Monday night along Commonwealth Avenue near Litex Road in Barangay (village) Commonwealth. Police Officer 1 Alvin Quisumbing of the Quezon City Police District identified the victim as Nheilboy Stallo, 23, employee of Unilever and resident of 210 De Ampil St., Barangay 631, Sta. Mesa, Manila. Quisumbing said Stallo was gunned down by men who introduced themselves as barangay public safety officers. Stallo sustained a fatal gunshot wound in his abdomen and was declared dead on arrival at the East Avenue Medical Center. Based on witnesses’ accounts, two men on board a motorcycle without a plate number approached the victim and briefly talked to him before shooting him.—Nancy C. Carvajal
E-Pass service available at AYG Toll Plaza
One of the service improvement programs that the Citra Group and San Miguel Holdings Corp. (SMHC) have begun to undertake is making the Ayala Greenfield Toll Plaza (AYG) e-Pass-enabled. AYG Toll Plaza services the Calamba-Sto. Tomas end-section of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx), referred to as Toll Road 3 (TR3). With the e-Pass service now available at AYG Toll Plaza, motorists with e-Pass going to or coming from Sto. Tomas, Batangas, can now enjoy faster entry-exit at said toll plaza where there are two dedicated e-Pass lanes, one each at the northbound and southbound direction, as well as “Mixed e-Pass/Cash” lanes, as another option for e-Pass motorists.
