Today, Jan. 25, is the birth anniversary of the late National Artist for Architecture Pablo Antonio. Born in Manila, he was dubbed the “President’s Architect” after he remodeled the houses of President Manuel L. Quezon and Vice President Sergio Osmeña. He constructed around 60 residences, 48 commercial and industrial buildings, 11 theaters, six schools, and 30 other structures throughout his career. He died of a heart attack on June 15, 1974, and was posthumously conferred the National Artist Award for Architecture on March 27, 1976.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
