Lanao del Sur mayor tests positive for COVID-19

COTABATO CITY –– Hours after Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr. declared that he got infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), another local official admitted Monday night that he, too, had contracted the virus.

In a statement, Mayor Mohammad Yahya Macapodi of Malabang town in Lanao del Sur said he experienced mild symptoms the past few days and was told to be swabbed for testing.

“I was contacted and informed that my result came out positive for COVID-19,” said Macapodi, who is now quarantined at the Amai Pakpak Medical Center in Marawi City.

“I urge all who had direct contact with me for the past week to submit yourselves to health authorities and also undergo a 14-day quarantine,” he added.

Macapodi’s family members are now on home quarantine.

A day earlier, Gov. Adiong announced that he was exposed to a person who turned out later to be infected with COVID-19.

To date, the Bangsamoro region has recorded a total of 798 cases, including its health minister, Dr. Saffrullah Dipatuan, and parliament member Marjanie Macasalong.
