Senate begins debates on impeach rules
MANILA, Philippines—Senators on Tuesday began plenary debates on the rules of procedures that will be used in the impeachment trial of Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez .
Resolution 432, containing the proposed rules of procedure on impeachment trials, was endorsed on the floor by Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, also chairman of the Senate committee on rules.
The move came after the House of Representatives voted 212-46 Tuesday to impeach the Ombudsman.
The Articles of Impeachment from the House will now be transmitted to the Senate, serving as an impeachment court, for trial.
Sotto said the impeachment trial could start at the resumption of session on May 9.
