LUCENA CITY – Eight coronavirus disease (COVID-19) related deaths were recorded in Quezon province on Friday.
The local health office of Perez town announced on social media that a confirmed virus carrier – a 42-year-old male from Barangay (village) Pagkakaisa – died. They gave no other details about the victim, the second fatality of the dreaded virus in the town of Alabat island.
Meanwhile, at least seven people suspected of coronavirus infection were added to the province’s list of mortalities among “suspect” categories.
In a 5 p.m. report on Friday, the Quezon public information office (QPIO) said the total number of people who died without confirmation if they were infected is now 106, a spike from 99 earlier in the day.
No details on the fatalities were given.
According to Department of Health (DOH) protocol, a person is considered suspected carrier if he or she shows symptoms like fever, cough or sore throat two weeks after contact with an infected person or persons who had come from an infected place.
Those with symptoms but belong to what is considered as vulnerable segment of the population — elderly, those with preexisting health conditions, pregnant women and health care workers — are also considered as coronavirus suspects.
Health office records showed that at least 466 coronavirus suspects are still confined in different hospitals and 723 are on home quarantine.
From March 15 to April 13, the IPHO record showed 44 deaths under the “person under investigation” classification, which was replaced by the “suspect” category in the DOH reclassification.
As of Friday afternoon, Quezon, reverted to modified general community quarantine until September 31, recorded a total of 1,378 COVID-19 cases, 397 of which are active. The province also logged a total of 937 recoveries.
