10 more Oriental Mindoro Provincial Jail inmates contract COVID-19

CITY OF CALAPAN, Oriental Mindoro – The City Health and Sanitation Department reported that 10 more inmates at the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Jail have tested positive for the coronavirus diseases (COVID-19) on Saturday.

“..lahat sila ay mga inmates o preso sa loob ng Oriental Mindoro Provincial Jail (OMPJ) na nasa loob ng Provincial Capitol Complex sa pamamahala ng Provincial Government. Walang gagawing contact tracing sa labas dahil dati ng naka isolate ang mga inmates na na-swab,” said Calapan City Mayor Arnan Panaligan.

(All of them are inmates of the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Jail inside the Provincial Capitol Complex under the supervision of the provincial government. There will be no contact tracing outside as inmates who had been swabbed had earlier been isolated.)

On Thursday, city health officials said 15 of the 25 new COVID-19 cases here are inmates at the provincial jail.

As of 12 p.m. of September 12, the city has confirmed 228 cases with 96 being active cases, 129 recoveries, and three deaths.

Meanwhile, Pinamalayan Oriental Mindoro Mayor Aristeo Baldos Jr. in a video message said their town is on “total lockdown” from September 10 to 20 after nine new cases had been reported. Among those who have contracted COVID-19 are three government employees.

The total positive cases in the town are now 17.

The employees come from the municipal planning and development office, municipal treasurer’s office, and municipal assessor’s office.

Those who had been in these offices since September 3 and are experiencing symptoms were advised by the mayor to consult their rural health unit.

For the meantime, Baldos said, “work from home” will be the mode, except for the mayor’s office, health, Municipal Social and Welfare Development Office, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, administrator’s office, market operations department, slaughterhouse division, General Services Office, security guards, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, street sweepers and the motorpool division.
