CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY –– An officer of the New People’s Army (NPA) who was arrested in Tagoloan town of Misamis Oriental last week is facing another case as she was turned over to the Caraga regional police on Wednesday.
Maj. Renel Serrano, Caraga police spokesperson, said Jenalyn Ganzan, 34, has a standing arrest warrant issued last January for kidnapping and serious illegal detention.
The Sibagat municipal police served the warrant to Ganzan as soon as the Northern Mindanao police command turned her over to the custody of the Caraga police.
Ganzan, who also goes by the alias Macky, was arrested by a combined force of Army and police in her residence in Barangay Poblacion of Tagoloan town on September 5.
The Army’s 4th Infantry Division said Ganzan was arrested under a warrant issued by Judge Fernando Fudalan Jr., of the Regional Trial Court Branch 7 in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur, for destructive arson under Criminal Case No. 6524 and kidnapping and serious illegal detention under Criminal Case No. 6527.
Lt. Jefferson Mariano, spokesperson of the Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion, said the suspect is a finance officer of a sub-regional NPA command.
Serrano said the new arrest warrant against Ganzan was also issued by Fudalan, under Criminal Case No. 6525. No bail was recommended for her temporary liberty.
Brigadier General Joselito Esquivel Jr., Caraga police chief, said the arrest of Ganzan deals a heavy blow to the NPA in the region.
