New PNP chief pays courtesy call on senators

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Camilo Cascolan on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on senators, few days after his appointment as the country’s new top cop.
In a message to INQUIRER.net, Senate President Vicente Sotto III said he and Cascolan discussed the budget of the PNP for the coming year.
“They also need additional funds for their 2021 budget for new units to be put up. Stronger intel group and anti-terror units and additional [COVID-19] units,” Sotto said.
The Senate kicked off its budget deliberations on Wednesday.
The new PNP chief also paid a courtesy call to Senator Lito Lapid. The two discussed how the senator can support Cascolan’s reform plans for the police force.

Cascolan was appointed PNP chief on September 1, succeeding his mistah – Gen. Archie Gamboa, who left the post as he reached the mandatory retirement age for police officers. Both Cascolan and Gamboa belong to the Philippine Military Academy Sinagtala Class of 1986.
Prior to being PNP chief, Cascolan served as PNP deputy chief for administration.
Cascolan is the 24th chief of PNP, and he will reach his mandatory retirement in November 2021.
