Woman, tagged NPA finance officer, arrested in Misamis Oriental

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—Authorities arrested a woman alleged to be the finance officer of a communist rebel unit in a town in Misamis Oriental, according to the military on Monday (Sept. 7).

The arrested woman was identified as Jenalyn Ganzan, who is said to go by the alias Macky, 34, a resident of the village of Poblacion in Tagoloan town.

The Philippine Army’s 4th Infantry Division alleged that Ganzan served as finance officer of a New People’s Army (NPA) unit in the guerrillas’ North Central Mindanao Regional Command.

A search and seizure warrant was used in arresting Ganzan. It was issued by Judge Fernando Fudalan Jr., of the Regional Trial Court Branch 7 based in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur province. The warrant tagged Ganzan as involved in arson, kidnapping and illegal detention.

No bail was recommended for the cases.

1Lt Jefferson Mariano, spokesperson of the Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion, said in a phone interview that Ganzan did not resist arrest.

Ganzan had been an active member of the NPA who traveled constantly, Mariano said.

The 58th IB also said it seized a cache of weapons after a clash with NPA at the village of Quezon Heights, Balingasag town, Misamis Oriental last Sept. 1.

Among those seized were a hand grenade, a Carbine rifle and magazne, ammunition, backpacks and personal belongings.
