11-day-old baby in Tacloban tests positive for COVID-19

TACLOBAN CITY — An 11-day-old infant from this city tested positive for the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the baby boy was among the 12 new cases in the city which now has 532 COVID-19 cases with four deaths.

Despite the increasing number of cases, Mayor Alfred Romualdez said he will not place the entire city under lockdown.

The city mayor instead urged the residents to always observe all the health protocols.

Unlike other areas which prohibit the entry of people coming from places where there are high COVID-19 cases, Tacloban will still continue to accept people as they can present health certificates from their places of origin.

Several local government units in the region like Borongan City and Ormoc City have imposed a temporary ban on people from areas where there are high cases of COVID-19 like Tacloban City, the regional center, and Catbalogan City in Samar province.

“We cannot place Tacloban City under lockdown considering that we are the regional center. We have the hospitals here, for one. Those who come from Samar going to other parts of Leyte have to pass by Tacloban,” he said.

Eastern Visayas currently has a total 3,382 cases.
