MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has been ordered to investigate a shooting incident involving a distressed police officer, who even used his son as a shield against responding policemen in a barangay near Camp Crame.

According to reports from QCPD, its chief Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo called for a thorough probe of the incident which occurred early Thursday morning.

Initial investigation showed that the suspect, identified as Police Lt. Emmanuel Jovero, assigned to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM) in Camp Crame went to the house of  Pat. Nurruhudin Salahudin in Barangay Bagong Lipunan ng Crame.

FEATURED STORIES

Salahudin, who was assigned to the Regional Crime Laboratory Office, went out of his room after hearing a commotion outside. He supposedly saw Jovero uneasily holding his sling bag.

Jovero then pointed his firearm against Salahudin, and then kept another officer and neighbor, Pat. Romesyl Destura, locked inside the comfort room.

Authorities from QCPD’s Station 7 along P. Tuazon Boulevard then responded to the scene and asked Jovero to surrender peacefully. But instead of complying with his fellow officers, Jovero supposedly used his son as a human shield while opening fire at his comrades.

After getting wounded, the suspect was said to have returned to the comfort room, but Salahudin and Destura fought back this time.

A scuffle ensued, resulting in Jovero and his son sustaining gunshot wounds in the body.

They were all brought to the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame for treatment.
