Environment advocates ask PNP to probe preferential treatment of Chinese in Pampanga

MANILA, Philippines — A group of environment advocates has urged the Philippine National Police (PNP) to investigate allegations that Chinese nationals in Pampanga are given preferential treatment amid various illegal activities stemming from the area.

Alliance for Consumer and Protection of Environment (ACAPE) Inc., said on Thursday that the group’s request was based on reports that Chinese citizens were operating an illegal COVID-19 hospital and a prostitution ring in separate locations in Clark, Pampanga.

“[ACAPE] Inc. has called the attention of government particularly the [PNP] to investigate the culprits behind the illegal operation of the so-called ‘clandestine hospital’,” the group said in a statement.

“ACAPE also condemns the special treatment given to some Chinese national who are COVID-19 positive becase they were allowed to put up their own hospital in Pampanga, while the residents here are afraid of and continuously suffering from getting inflicted of the virus,” group members claimed.

Last May 21, it was reported that the Clark Development Corp., a state-owned land developer, ordered the closure of a clandestine health facility in Clark which caters to Chinese nationals infected with the coronavirus.

Then just this August, a prostitution ring operated by Chinese men inside the Fontana Leisure Park was discovered, where six Chinese women and two Vietnamese women were rescued.

ACAPE is worried that the province may turn into a de facto Chinese province.  Recently, a lawmaker found out that cosmetic products sold in manila labeled the country’s capital — Manila province — as a province of the People’s Republic of China.

“Moreso, ACAPE has been worrying for the possibility of the invasion and transfer of  Pampanga as Province of China by rich Chinese businessmen,” ACAPE said. “We will not allow and we do not want our place to be identified Pampanga as Province of China.”
